The myth
“If the recruiter likes me, I get the job. If they don’t, I’m done.”
The bust
Recruiters control access and process: screens, scheduling, narrative to the panel, offer logistics. Hiring managers (and panels) control the hire. HR controls policy, equity, and compliance brakes. A recruiter can champion you and still lose a debrief. A recruiter can be lukewarm and a manager can still fall in love in the room.

What recruiters do decide: - Who gets a first look when volume is high - How your story is framed in the writeup - Whether a process stays alive or stalls

What to do instead
Treat the recruiter as a critical ally and translator. Still prepare to win the panel. Ask who the decision maker is and what “good” means on the scorecard.
Verdict: Myth as stated. Influence yes. Final hire usually no.
